Speed beats features
A store live on Friday beats a perfect store live next quarter. We optimise for time-to-first-order, not feature-list length. Median onboarding from signup to first paid order: 3 days, 6 hours.
Indian D2C founders shouldn’t spend a quarter wiring up payments, invoices, and inventory before they sell their first unit. Aeonzap collapses that into a weekend — without locking you into a hosted black box.
We don’t believe in dashboards full of charts no one reads. We believe in decisions. The home screen should tell an operator what to do at 9:14am on a Tuesday — not how their store performed against a chart they last looked at in March.
Aeonzap began in late 2023, in a 2BHK in Indiranagar, Bengaluru. The three of us had spent the prior four years operating D2C brands — one apparel, one beauty, one home — and had independently arrived at the same stack: Shopify for the storefront, WooCommerce for the catalogue we couldn’t express in Shopify, a tangle of WhatsApp Business APIs, three GST plugins, and a spreadsheet for reconciling COD against courier remittances. Every brand we knew ran some flavour of this duct tape.
So we started Aeonzap to delete the duct tape. Two products on one engine. Studio is a full-stack site builder for new stores: pick a theme, ship a checkout, plug in Razorpay, go live. Engine is a drop-in backend for stores already coded — install a package, point your frontend at it, and replace your custom CRUD with a battle-tested ecommerce core. Both share the same admin, the same plugins, the same data model. One platform. Two doors in.
We shipped in March 2024, opened to everyone in January 2026, and now power 218 live stores across India and the UAE. Every release notes its merchant impact in the changelog.
The arguments we keep having when we argue about features.
A store live on Friday beats a perfect store live next quarter. We optimise for time-to-first-order, not feature-list length. Median onboarding from signup to first paid order: 3 days, 6 hours.
No proprietary template languages. No locked widgets. Your storefront is a Next.js app you can read, fork, and host. Engine source is available under a fair-use license.
Razorpay, UPI, GST invoices, pincode shipping, INR pricing. Working out of the box — not behind a settings page. International rails are opt-in, never the other way around.
The admin tells you what to do next, not just what happened. Charts are a deeper layer, not the home screen. Every queued decision shows expected revenue impact.
Every feature ships with a metric attached. If it doesn’t move checkout conversion, GMV per session, or operator time-saved within 30 days, we kill it. We’ve sunset 9 features so far.
Five weeks build, one week cool-down. Releases land Mondays, 9:00am IST. Every release has a named owner and a written post-mortem if it slips.
Every quarter’s plan lives on GitHub. Merchants vote, comment, file PRs. We’ve shipped 14 community-requested features in the last 6 months.
Half of us have shipped or operated a D2C brand. Names go up at launch — for now, the roles do the talking.
Ex-D2C operator. Shipped 9-figure GMV apparel brand. Reformed Shopify maximalist.
Ex-Razorpay. 11 years in payments. Maintains Engine’s payment-router internals.
Ex-Atlassian. Distributed-systems brain. Owns reliability, on-call, infra costs.
Ex-Cred design lead. Set the 8px grid. Wrote the “no-modal” rule.
Ex-Shopify Plus, India region. Ran migrations for 60+ enterprise stores.
Owns the GST invoice engine and HSN dictionary. CA-adjacent.
A pre-seed round closed in Q4 2024 from one India-focused fund and seven angel investors — all of whom have founded, run, or invested in Indian commerce. Names disclosed at launch.
